Celebrate Barrie is Barrie’s largest annual festival.
To introduce new concepts in children's play in public parks, Cam Collyer, as Executive Lead for Evergreen, led a team of designers and programmers that worked closely with the City of Barrie Parks Department to introduce a large scale nature play installation at the 2019 festival.
A variety hands-on outdoor play experiences were prototyped, inviting the community to explore outdoor nature play and provide feedback on the future of play spaces in Barrie.
Activations included:

Loose parts play with stumps, wooden boards and branches encouraged children to build, climb, and challenge their balance.

A pathway of wooden stepping stones leading to a willow fort provided a child-sized space for imaginary play.

A series of wooden aqueducts paired with watering cans, buckets, shovels and funnels supported children in experimenting with sand and water and cooperative play.

Clay art on a tree trunk fostered creativity in a hands-on collaborative art installation.
