School Boards Across Canada

Year

1997 - 2020

As the Program Director at Evergreen, Cam Collyer led Evergreen's Learning Grounds program for 23 years developing it into an international leader in the field. This award-winning initiative took a systems approach to Canada’s school grounds into vibrant, nature-rich environments for play and learning.

Cam co-founded the International School Ground Alliance that brought the Canadian program into regular contact with many of the top landscape architects and educators worldwide.

The results improved over 3,000 school grounds while increasing capacity at school boards and schools to design, implement, maintain and teach in the enhanced outdoor learning environments.

Supports for school boards and schools included:

•    Development of guidelines to help schools

      implement and maintain successful and

      sustainable greening projects;
•    Training for staff including: teacher training

      workshops and summer institutes to support

      outdoor learning and play;
•    A national network of trained Landscape

      Architects and Designers;

•   Over $2,000,000 of grants distributed;
•   A suite of over 20 publications covering research,

    design, lesson plans and case studies.
