Neighbourhood Nature Play

Neighbourhood Nature Play was a two year pilot project to introduce regular and routine nature play into the lives of children in two of Kitchener’s highest need neighbourhoods.

 

As Program Director at Evergreen, Cam Collyer led the partnership building with the City of Kitchener, the fundraising for the project and oversaw the design of the space, staff training and site programming.

​The project included the installation of play facilities including shelter, water, storage, fire pits and loose parts to facilitate outdoor play. Weekly nature programs were hosted by playworkers trained to engage children in  hands-on, self-directed play.

Program attendees reported increased connection to family, the community, and the environment.
